A little preparation before your clean makes a real difference in what your team can accomplish during the visit. None of it is complicated. It mostly comes down to two things: clear the way so cleaners can clean, and make sure they can actually get in.
Here’s what we recommend before every appointment.
Clear the Clutter
The most impactful thing you can do before your team arrives is pick up clutter. Clothes on the floor, dishes on the counter, random items spread across surfaces. Anything that needs to be moved before cleaning can start takes time away from the actual cleaning you paid for.
This is something clients often don’t think about ahead of time. There’s an important difference between a cleaning company and a maid service. A cleaning company is there to clean. That means wiping, scrubbing, vacuuming, and sanitizing the surfaces of your home. It doesn’t mean sorting through your belongings, deciding what goes where, or tidying up personal items.
When a cleaner arrives to a space full of things that need to be moved or organized before any cleaning can happen, it eats into the time they have to do their actual job. In some cases, it means the clean takes longer than booked. That can affect your invoice.
A quick sweep through the main areas before your team arrives means they spend their time doing what they’re trained to do.
Sort Out Access Before the Day
If you won’t be home when your team arrives, make sure access is handled in advance. Have your phone nearby and the ringer on. Our team will ring the buzzer or call when they get there. If your building has a key code or access fob, send that information to us before the appointment so there are no delays.
Our policy is to wait a maximum of 15 minutes if we can’t reach you or get into the building. If we’re still unable to get access after that point, the appointment will be cancelled and the full service fee applies. Our team’s time is scheduled around your booking, and the client after you is counting on their appointment starting on time too.
For clients who have repeated access issues, we may need to have a conversation about continuing the relationship. A cleaner who shows up to your home and can’t get in has lost that time, time they could have spent with another client who was ready. We take our team’s time seriously, and we ask clients to do the same.
If you’re going to be home, no special prep is needed for access. Just be ready to let the team in when they arrive.
What You Don’t Need to Do
You don’t need to pre-clean before your cleaners come. That defeats the purpose. You don’t need to buy supplies. Our team brings everything they need. You don’t need to be home unless you prefer to be.
If you have pets, make sure they’re secured in a way that keeps everyone comfortable during the clean. And if there’s anything specific you want your team to focus on or skip, let us know when you book your appointment or give us a call at 778-786-8500 ahead of time.
A Clean Home Starts With a Clear Space
The clients who get the most out of their cleans are the ones who set their team up to succeed. A cleared countertop takes 30 seconds to do and gives your cleaner 20 extra minutes of actual cleaning time. It’s worth it.
